For violists dedicated to historical performance practice or seeking an authentic Baroque sound, this Academie viola string set is a top choice.

It's designed for a lower pitch of A=415, which is standard for many period instruments.

The set includes a double-length plain gut A string, a Pistoy gut D string, and gut-core, silver-wound G and C strings – all in medium gauges (A .76mm, D 1.04mm, G .82mm, C 1.12mm).

Made from high-tensile-strength beef serosa (not sheep gut), these strings are durable and produce a wonderfully warm, full, and complex tone with a powerful fundamental.

They're handmade in the USA by Gamut Music.

Important note: Gut strings like these are not compatible with fine tuners – you'll need to remove them and use the traditional knotting method (instructions included).

They're also sensitive to humidity.

If you're looking to recreate the rich, nuanced sound of early music on your viola, these strings offer the authenticity and quality that serious players demand.
