1- Have Passion – This takes getting out there meeting customers. Not sitting behind the desk all day. Customers need to see you at their place of business taking interest in who they are and what they do in order to see your passion.

2- Be Responsive – It means being nimble. Being able to react and respond to client needs or requests faster than your larger competitors. When you know your customers and understand their business, you can meet their needs in a timely way.

3- Foster Collaboration – That means working on behalf of your client across the organization. Even small banks can achieve this with technology available at reasonable costs. Collaborating on behalf of your customers is the way to ensure they are connected with the right team members and always have the best of what you have to offer.

4- Stay Close – Make it a point to get close to your customers. Community Bankers have a unique knowledge of their communities, needs and what your customers have to offer. You are in a unique position to help them get connected and provide them with the products and services they need.

Community Bank’s have traditionally fostered and funded innovation within their community. It is the unique way you enable your communities to thrive. It is especially important right now given the challenges that this pandemic has inflicted on individuals and businesses of all types.

Community Banks have a choice. They can pull back and create a little distance between them and their customers so that if things get worse it will be easier to collect from them, or they can lean in and make a real difference by investing, helping, advising, planning and innovating with their customers. Either way, you’ll be remembered for what you did during the difficult times.
